AMX VCI APC (VTT/PC) Command Vehicle. Second photo shows internal layout. The AMX VCI came into existence due to the cancellation of two Hotchkiss vehicles, the TT 6 and the T 9 APCs. Development began in the early 1950s, with the first prototype completed in 1955. The first production vehicle appeared in 1957. The AMX VCI is a member of the AMX-13 family of vehicles. When originally introduced into the French Army, the vehicle was known as Transport de Troupe Chanillé Model 56 then Véhicule Transport de Personnel and finally Véhicle de Combat d’Infanterie. This version is the Command Post (VTT/PC), which is the basic AMX VCI with a crew of six to eight, depending on its role. Internally there are two map tables as well as added communication equipment. The Tank Museum’s vehicle was part of an exchanged with the French, Musee des Blindes, and came with the original radio communication equipment.
