ANAHEIM ICE--ORININALLY DISNEY ICE: During the 1980s, after Old Downtown Anaheim was declared condemned and torn down, there was a long period of time where Downtown was mostly just a vacant lot. The heart of the city was the Anaheim Resort and the Platinum Triangle, and a lot of new developments had migrated out to John Wayne Airport, and Downtown was simply Inner city (not to mention a wasteland) in which no one felt it was profitable investing in that area. Finally, there was a taker--DISNEY. After Disney Ice was built, the city was able to get other investors and builders, and they were able to complete the New Downtown Anaheim. Today, Downtown is not the heart of the city, but it seems to be doing very well. Disney saved Downtown Anaheim. I wonder if Disney can save the Platinum Triangle, which I understand is having the same economic problems Downtown had 30 years ago?
