ANNOUNCEMENT: Boise just scored a major victory for kids! The Boise Child Care Healthy Initiatives ordinance has passed by a unanimous vote. Boise takes the lead in an effort to reduce childhood obesity and create a healthier city! Tonight’s vote also strengthens childcare standards by improving safety and bringing training requirements & child-to-worker ratios more in line with national recommendations. I encourage other municipalities to follow suit. As Idaho lags behind every other state in America, local governments can pick up the mantle and lead the way to create a healthier environment for children. As you know, my priority as your Council Member is to make Boise the ‘Healthiest City in America’. It can’t stop here. There is more work to do and, with your continued support, I will be working hard to make that vision a reality in the years ahead. NOW LIVE: Visit boisechildcare! Unique to Boise, this new, user-friendly website provides free and open information, including a comprehensive search engine, to facilitate informed decision making for parents. Over the next year, the site will be fully populated to include a ‘healthy child care rating’ for every provider in Boise, allowing families to decide where to enroll their kids with their child’s health and future in mind. I believe this will serve as the premier child care selection tool for our citizens for many years to come.
