ANNUAL SCOUT REPORT BY Rifat Ahmed Rifat Ahmed Former- Troop Leader (2012-2013) Scouting in St. Gregory’s High School bears a glorious past history. Undoubtedly ‘Gregorian Scout Troop’ is the most historical chapter of St. Gregory’s High School. The group gave much in past, giving in present and will be giving in the future to the school. ‘Gregorian Scout’ did splendid performance in many national and international Jamboree and brought fame and awards for the school under the superb guidance of scout masters like Alfred Palmer, Mr. Nicholas Rozario, Mr. Nilotpal Sarker, who can never be forgotten from our hearts. In the year 1914, Rev. Bro. Fr. T. Crowly started scouting in our school. Afterwards Bro. John, Bro. J.S. Peixotto and many formed ‘Gregorian Scout’ in new structures. During Bro. Thomas More’s time ‘Gregorian Scout’ become ‘Quaid-E-Azam Scouts’ in 1962. Bro. Bertin and Mr. Nicholas Rozario was presented national award for their service in scouting. Even ‘Gregorian Scout’ is still known as ‘Nicholas’s Boys’. In the past, many hold the leadership of ‘Gregorian Scout’ and proved their skills in leading. Now the duty is on very effective leader MD. Shakhawat Hossain, Bimalindu Sarker and the president of group scout committee Bro. Prodip Placid Gomes C.S.C . They already have proved that they are the best for this time.Former of scouting, Robert Stefension Smith lord Baden Powel of Gilwell, always encouraged all to sacrificing lifes for others, and it is the motto of scouting service. Following that the scouts of Savar helped a lot in rescuing and in first aid during the Savar Tragedy’.The principle of ‘Gregorian Scout’ is to assist the members to improve their discipline, thinking, servicing and to make them practical in their life. In our school we have cub scouting from class II - IV and boys scouting from class V – X. Every year they are given their badges and rank according to their proficiency. Now we have around 90 boys in cub and boys scouts in our school. In scouting we have four proficiency badges. Membership, Standard, Progress and Service are the four. List of progress and service badge holders are given below- Progress- Alauddin Ahmed Sakib (Class- 8) Hasibul Hassan Joy (Class-8) Saffat Ahmed (Class-8) Julian Ahmed (Class-8) Rafiul Haque (Class-8) Akib Ahmed Pranto (Class-8) Service- Rifat Ahmed (Class-10) Nadimuzzaman Rabby (Class-10) Samio Ahmed Bhuiyan (Class-9) Tawfiqul Alam (Class-9) Imtiaz Ahmed Sakib (Class-9) The members of ‘Gregorian Scout’ are taught discipline, general knowledge, first aid, hiking, lashing, estimation, gadget planning, decoding and many more things. Among these most are field works.Like every year, ‘Gregorian Scout’ has past another eventful and Successful year which included various activities. They are given below:- November 9-11, 2012, our School organized ‘5th EBL SGHS National Debate Competition 2012’. Our Scouts helped much for the success of this competition. December 2012, Gregorian Scout organized Annual Scout Camp in ‘BAARACA’ . During those three days, the Scouts were examined with their skills and achieved their proficiency and efficiency badges. December 23-28, 2012, ‘Gregorian Scout Troop’ participated in ‘13th Regional Scout Gathering’ and gave splendid performance. From January 29 to February 8, 2012, our scout troop attended in ‘5th National COMDECA (Community Development Camp) and 10th National Rover Moot at ‘Moynamotir Char’, Panchgarh.Gregorian Scout Troop in Panchagarh In February 2013, our school organized ‘Cultural Competition and Annual Prize Giving Ceremony’, in which our Scouts played a vital role. In ‘International Mother Language day’, our school organized a function to recall the sacrifice and to respect the martyrs . ‘Gregorian Scout’ maintained the function from start to end. In ‘Inter School Science Festival and Art Exhibition-2013’, ‘Gregorian Scout’ fulfilled the duties which were given to them. They welcomed the chief and special guests by going them a heart full ‘Guard of Honor’. Gregorian Scout’ went to Nepal for attending ‘2nd National Nepal Scout Jamboree’ from 10 to 15 April-2013. We were given a warm welcome there. It was a great experience for the Troop.Gregorian Scout Troop in Nepal 23rd may, ‘Gregorian Scout’ organized their ‘First one Day camp- 2013’ in the school premises. There recent S.P.L and A.S.P.L elected new S.P.L and A.S.PL. After every exam there is a teacher and parents meeting. ‘Gregorian Scout’ maintained the discipline of every meeting the whole time. June-2013, ‘Gregorian Scout’ participated in ‘1st Book Reading Competition’ in ‘Wills Little Flowers school’. 3 and 4 August-2013, our scouts participated in ‘9th Asia pacific Regional Air/Internet Jamboree’. Without these , Gregorian Scouts had lots of tasks this year which they completed successfully . The activities of ‘Gregorian Scout’ have always been praised by all. Their hard work helped them to reach at the peak of success and fame. At last, I wish all the best to ‘Gregorian Scout’ and like all other ExGregorian Scouts , I also want to say to the new ones-“Go Ahead Gregorian Scout I Am With You”.
