There was jubilation in some major towns of Osun State today after the Federal Court of Appeal sitting in Akure sacked the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Rufus Oluwatoyin Akeju and nullified the elections Conducted by him in 2011. Immediately the news of the judgement filtered to Osun, people believed to be Supporters Of The Peoples Democratic Party took to the streets in towns like Iwo, Ede, Osogbo,Ile-Ife Ilesa, Ikire and Ila Orangun among others to rejoice over the major legal decisions which upheld that of the Federal High Court. A politician in Ikire told our correspondent that the judgement confirmed that the 2011 elections should not have been conducted by Akeju and therefore results of those elections need to be voided. At Ilobu,another politician said the latest development gave the Peoples Democratic Party a ray of hope in the current legal battle by the party’s flagbearer, Senator Iyiola Omisore against the election of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the August 9 governorship poll. “By this judgement, we have been vindicated and people can now see the reason why we kicked against retaining Akeju to conduct the August 9 election”, he said, adding that the judgement will further strengthen the hope of Nigerians in the judiciary. slankama 2014
