ARE YOU A BUSINESS OWNER DECIDING ON USING A PAYROLL COMPANY? HERE IS SOME INFORMATION FOR YOU. Why would a business owner want to use a payroll company? There are a lot of good answers but one of them is because nobody can effectively run a business and still keep up with the onslaught of Federal rules and rule changes that affect your business. For example - The Labor Department announced August 10, 2011 that they want to encourage public comment on a new data base they plan to create. The data base would provide information on wages, benefits and salaries being offered by contractors and subcontractors who work with the Federal Government. The plan is to curb discrimination in the workplace. This may or may not be a beneficial action on the part of the Federal Government. What you can count on will be penalties if you do not properly comply with whatever comes from this public comment. Payroll has become a commodity and it can be argued that basic payroll services are so inexpensive for what they deliver that you cannot afford to hire somebody to do the work. That of course ignores the fact that not every business is the same and in some cases the payroll function must be highly specialized. However, for most American business it makes sense to at least interview payroll companies to see how they can help you. In this process you need to look for efficiency, honesty, overall capability in your industry and depth of backup in the employee base that process your payroll. If your processor is different every time you call it might not be the company you need. So take the time to speak to several providers and find one that knows our industry, and can bring value to your operations.
