ARE YOU CUT OUT FOR COMPETING? Competition dieting is not for - TopicsExpress

ARE YOU CUT OUT FOR COMPETING? Competition dieting is not for everyone! Now this may seem to be a depressing way to get started, but it is the cold hard truth. In competition dieting, we are not striving to look normal, we are striving for excellence. We are not aiming for the healthy 15-17% body fat of an extremely fit female individual. No, we are going for ultra-lean 5-9% body fat. I am not going to be the judge of the level of body fat you need, but I will say it is super low. How are we going to get there if we are cheating on our diet, adding in extra food, extra sauce and eating for flavour. That’s right; the fact that your food even tastes good is just a happy accident. So, before you torture yourself further, really dig deep and ask yourself “Is this something that is realistic for me?” Don’t beat yourself up about it if it is not. If you love going out to dinner, and having a glass of wine and sneaking bites of food, I can guarantee you with almost certainty you won’t be ready for the stage. You can negotiate all you want, you can say to yourself, but I am getting leaner, I deserve it, I am doing such a great job. No, no, no!!!! This is not how we roll. This is not what figure/sports models are made of. Right about now you may be saying to yourself, ok, Ingrid that is fine, but I don’t want to be a professional, I don’t really want to win, I just want to push myself to the next level, I want to see what I can do, I want to see what I am made of. In other words you are saying; I want to have my cake and eat it too. I actually had a client who told me that she wants to get ready for a show, but she wanted to eat a pasta dish once a week. Then she asked me, if we could negotiate where the pasta was her reward. Um… NO! So it is fine if you want to push yourself, and see what you are made of, but really, you will not be stepping on stage anytime soon with the amount of leanness needed to be competitive. I want to really hammer this point home, the reason, is because it is the source of almost all of your pain related to your competition diet. You want to look good, but you want to eat pasta too. I am here to tell you, it doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t work that way!!!! So, let’s be brutally honest here. Is this something you can realistically do? Are you addicted to food? Are you addicted to control? Do you binge and purge? Do you starve yourself? Do you have an eating disorder? If this sounds like you, you need counselling not a competition coach. Binging and purging and gorging are serious problems that need to be dealt with by a trained Psychologist. Perhaps have some counselling before you even make your decision. Because if your heads not in the right head space, nothing else will be either. Before you hire someone to do your contest diet, make sure you are not giving them more than they bargained for. A competition coach cannot pull you out of an emotional ditch from hell. They just don’t have the skills to do that. - Ingrid Barclay Extract From Figure It Out.
