AUCKLAND Grand Prix Cross Country, Pukekohe – 10 May 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games bound triathlete Ryan Sissons took time out from his rigorous training schedule to enjoy a bit of cross country running on Saturday. Sissons was in a class of his own in the annual 7km race, establishing a good lead mid-way over former national champion Alex Parlane. He showed plenty of strength on the hills around the showgrounds and came through a clear winner in 21m 34s. Parlane was second in 22m 27s with Michael Banks third in 22m 55s. Sissons, who heads to Japan this week for the next race in the ITU world triathlon series in Yokohama, said it was a bit different and good fun. “I haven’t done cross country for two to three years and it fitted in quite well with the schedule,” he said. “I had a hard run and a not too bad a time for 7km on grass so hopefully it will give me a bit extra when it comes to racing on the road.” Rachel Penney in the master women’s 40-44 grade led in the combined women’s field running 18m 37s for the 5km. Lydia Ingram was the first senior woman in 18m 44s. Harry Linford won the junior men’s 5km in 16m 9s while the junior women’s went to Michelle Allbury in 22m 25s.
