About 50 years ago .. My Father was 10 years old ! My father and my grandfather went to the market for buying Vinayagar Statue since that day was Vinayagar chathurthi ! They bought it and returned from the market ! The scene was quite an antiquity ! The vinayagar statue was kept on a rectangular wood (manappalagai ) My father was lifting that Idol over his head ! holding the wood with his tow hands ! My grandpa was walking beside him ! Quite Nostalgic when i imagine my fathers childhood ..I see myself ! My grandpa Advised my dad Son ! Dont think this is a burden .. this will give wisdom for you .. this is a service to god My dad unable to reply or react anything ..he just heard his words because he was very cautious about the satue of the god ! They walked almost half a mile and after that a amman(Mother god ) temple came ! My grandpa said Hey Guna .. We will keep the pullaiyaar here for a moment ..we wil lit up the camphor here and go And my grandpa closed his eyes and prayed the mother god ! My dad tried to keep the statue down ! he slowly lifted it down with his kiddish hands holding the wood only ! the statue danced and fell down ! Guess what happened ? of course the statue was mad of mud ! it broke ! My dad was standing with his mouth open ! My grandpa trembled with indignation and agitated my fathers shoulder and asked him What have you done ? You broke our Vinayagar ? How you are going to study well here after ? ..you are a worthless son Continously yelled at my father ! My father with a broken voice Dad , I just broke a statue not the God My grandpa got much furious and cried Shut up ! dont talk too much ..Who is going to pay for another statue ? And they walked back to the market again .. My grandpa never opened his mouth .. He was walking much faster and my father holding his hands was almost running ! at the marker .. My Grandpa while paying the money for the statue looked at his son and yelled See the money is getting wasted because of you ..useless fellow My father mumbled something ! My grandpa leaned down and threatened my dad What were you saying ? tell me ..tell me now My father with a slower tone said You are spending money on mud .. I am not an useless fellow .. and what kind of a person will buy god with money ? The god only needs to give us money sheepishly My grandfather was stunned and was looking at my father with his mouth wide opened ! and then after few seconds My grandfather pinched my father and gave a slap on his cheek and said Dont talk about our festivals like this .. it is a sin This story was told by my father to me ! We used to debate on God vs No god I certainly won over him and he never accepted that .. and after that he said this story ... After getting a shocking slap he always prayed god without questioning ! He almost believed without reasoning ... Now it is very difficult for him to erase the belief ! Now this is what happened to all religious people here !! Nobody wouldve know who is god , unless we are been introduced ! - (Life of Pi) A child who is born what he or she will know .. you make him wear a cap and praise Allah ! you ask him to kneel down and pray for Jesus ! you make him bow down before rocks and draw few lines on his fore head and make him pray Shiva ! What rights you have to do like that ? Just because theyre born to you they will not become your own ! They have their own organs and own soul ! Let them choose what they want to do ! You itself say that We are the creations of the creator How can you precisely say that the creator is Allah or the Holy father or The Narayana ? How can you say a Hindu parent will be blessed only by a hindhu god ? You believe OK that is your problem ... But what does that child did ... You impose them your beliefs and make them blind just like you ! And in the future also our generations has to fight among themselves ! Dont inherit belief systems .. Inherit reasoning and intelligence ! Imposing a belief system into childrens mind is like killing their intelligence ! Let them choose ... !! Sittaraman Gunasegaran
