About this Petition No Canadian Land Grab! The fourth largest mine of its kind in the world, is planned at Norra Kärr, Östergötland, Sweden. Rare Earth Mineral mining is among the most toxic, and the most dangerous, and it leaves a trail of destruction, both in the communities and in the wildlife surrounding the area. Rare earth processing plants have left a legacy of severe environmental destruction and of lung, pancreatic, and other cancers among people who live in the region. The acid runoff will drain straight into beautiful lake Vättern, it will destroy ground water as well as drinking water. The mine is near a nature preserve, and will endanger several protected species of flora. The lanthanides, like Zirconium, are mixed with Uranium, making this project particularly dangerous, and a radiation spill is not only possible, but probable. Tasman metals have left a toxic mess behind in many places around the globe. They are not held accountable anywhere they go! They have not set aside any funds in case of an accident! Radiation in this area, would affect drinking water of hundreds of thousands of people, and Many home owners who have been there for MANY generations will also be adersly affected by this mine. Help them, by giving them the voice of many! Sweden, if this is longterm care of your drinking waters and protected nature, (25 year lease, with option for another 10) what can we really count on you to protect? Canadaian mining companies only mine where they are safe from litigation following the contamination. Stop this mine!
