According to the 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health almost 1.4 million people in the United States used cocaine in the past 30 days. Currently there are no FDA approved pharmacotherapies for cocaine abuse. But a new approach has shown to be effective in non-human primates. The hypothesis is to inject a vaccine so that antibodies can be produced in the immune system that will bind themselves while in the bloodstreem preventing the cocaine to enter the brain.
