According to the College Board, most colleges do not notify ED and EA applicants of admission until December 15. Consider the time line: Most high school counselors and recommenders will have only a few days before Christmas break to send their parts to the colleges even if you have until January 1 to submit your applications. If you are rejected by the ED college or the decision is deferred to the spring, you have very little time to send in other applications. Some high schools require all applications to be done by December 1 in order to allow them the time they need to send out the necessary reports and recommendations. The College Board strongly advises students who are applying early to prepare other applications as they wait to receive admission decisions from their first-choice college. So even if you feel pretty confident that you will be accepted by your early school, it would be prudent to spend some time over Thanksgiving writing the supplementary essays for your back-up colleges!
