Adm JAVA Fabregas set to reject Manchester United to stay at Barcelona The Spain international has reportedly decided to stay at Camp Nou, despite being flattered by the Red Devils’ interest. United’s summer-long pursuit of the former Arsenal midfielder looks to be coming to an end, with Fabregas set to spurn the option to return to England in favour of staying with his boyhood club. Reports in the British media claim that the 26- year-old has made his mind up to stay in his homeland and fight for a consistent place in the Blaugrana starting XI. Fabregas returned to Barcelona from Arsenal two years ago, but has failed to live up to the expectations placed on him by a passionate Camp Nou following. With the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets to contend with, the star has also been deployed further forward as a false nine by club and country. However, with Xavi ageing and Thiago Alcantara making the switch to Bayern Munich earlier in the summer, Fabregas’ opportunities to play in his favoured central midfield role may well be more forthcoming next season. United boss David Moyes has had a quiet transfer window to date, with his number one priority to add a top-quality central midfielder to his squad before the start of the campaign. With Paul Scholes retiring, the English champions could certainly use a player with creativity and energy in their ranks to partner Michael Carrick. Darren Fletcher’s illness continues to keep him away from the game, while Anderson and Tom Cleverley have had injury and form concerns. An initial enquiry for Alcantara is thought to have been made earlier in the summer, but the prodigious talent opted to move to the Allianz Arena, to be reunited with former boss Pep Guardiola. United have had a number of enquiries and reported bids for Fabregas rejected by the current La Liga champions, and the player’s thoughts are now believed to favour a stay at the club. Looking at the Barca squad, it would be a major surprise should they consider selling Fabregas. Alcantara left after a clause in his contract was met, and losing Fabregas also would see the club weakened in the centre of the park. United are reported to have Real Madrid’s Luka Modric and Maroaune Fellaini in their crosshairs also, in a bid to bolster Moyes’ options in the heart of his team. Whether a move for either materialises remains to be seen, but for the time being the Fabregas transfer saga appears to have ended.
