This weekend’s state committee action, timed specifically to apply pressure to the legislature to take action before year’s end, isn’t exactly incentivizing the grassroots to jump onboard the party bandwagon. On the contrary, this stunt effectively conveys the message from the party brass that the state party’s grassroots base isn’t welcome. Worse, the old guard bluebloods are probably well aware of the consequences, and just don’t care, because they’d rather lose a “gimme” election than allow the platformists a fair voice. And until the constitutionalist insurgency starts reliably placing a steep enough cost on business as usual, nothing is going to change.
