After 20-25 years, had supper at Duncans tonight with daughter Kate and long time friend Mark. Pleasantly surprised they still cook the old-fashion way. Great haddock dinner with baked beans and mac/cheese. Homemade cherry pie for dessert. Still tasty bread on the premises. Lemonade fresh squeezed. The place looks more picked up and orderly than I remember. Plenty of seating, one of 2 things I noticed different. Friday night in past times and youd have to wait for a chair, or a stool at one of the longest counters Ive ever seen anywhere. Too much restaurant competition these days. And the other difference ... the baked beans, while good, are not the distinct style they once were. I remember them well, because my Aunt Rose made them, starting with dried beans soaked overnight in water. Like Boston baked beans, but different. Anyway, a lot of homestyle food at very reasonable prices. And that haphazard ambiance you cant plan or design.
