After Swachh Bharat, was fully bogged down in sending of reports and other official work that I never got time to check personal mail or meditate! I then got a mail from my friend Senthil Kumar (from Salem) who gave an youtube link of Vairamuthus poetry. The first time I heard it, I was so moved, that tears automatically stood in the corner of the eye, waiting to fall...Many of my friends from Tamil Nadu may have heard it already. All the same, sharing the youtube link. And for the benefit of my Non Tamil speaking friends, here is a rough translation - It is real challenge to translate Tamil poetry - so, please bear with mistakes if any! _____ Long live the person gone after Janma Long live the person come with disturbed thoughts Let the moist eyes dry up Let peace, peace, circulate here Birth is nothing new on this earth There is nothing as old as death Nature is not there without them both Natures order is wisdoms border Where are the affectionate eyes Where are the searching hands Where are the feet that measured the nation where are the ashes left by that devouring fire The wind took what the eyes could see Born of the soil, gone back to the soil Figures made of Flesh and bones gone The life that was made alive by ALMS given by others.. There is not a single day without birth There is not a single day without death The memories that come with affection is trouble There is no greater medicine than forgetfulness The rivers that touch the sea dont get shaken The falls that touch the ground dont cry Fate is like rivers and rain, but understanding this, wonder why even wise men falter Death will end some anger Death will end some curses Death will teach what even Vedas dont teach If a seed falls plant will come.... We came on a yatra to the earth Before the yatra got over, we took to sleep Even if the sleep is ordained, The Yatra is a continous story.... When the faint hand of the breeze touches us When the streak of sunlight appears When we hear the sound of a child, Tis possible for the dead to live in us..... The breath of the dead joins the air The sight of the pure goes to the sun The golden body joins the pancha boothas (five elements) May the punya of the dead come to us... ______ Regards, Om Ps. The life that was made alive by ALMS given by others - Here the alms is not the exact equivalent - the tamil word, ECHAM is more appropriate. https://youtube/watch?v=MG79HQDIDzM
