After a long day of labor and delivery yesterday, Chanel gave birth to nine beautiful puppies! Last night I had to separate them into two groups and alternate them nursing about every half hour. Finally was able to get them settled and content after they dried off and had a chance to warm up and nurse. Chanels milk didnt come in right away so I applied Fennel essential oil and that really helped let her milk down! I havent checked on color/gender yet but here are some quick pictures this morning. I will be bathing Chanel and giving her Oxytocin to expel any retained afterbirth, giving her some penicillin to ward off infection and Citrical to increase her calcium level to prevent hypocalcemia. These first few weeks are the most critical, trying to keep babies out from behind mom so that they dont smother. I will be setting up my baby monitor so that I can hear everything that is going on in our room attached to our house.
