After breaking the ‘paid preview’ record previously held by 3 Idiots, Chennai Express went on to smash two more records – ‘highest opening day business’ and ‘highest single day collections’, as the film collected Rs 33.12 crore on its second day at the box office. That’s three down, with many more to go for the Shahrukh Khan starrer. Below is our box office prediction for the remaining two days in the week and the records that Chennai Express can overtake in the next few days. First Weekend Predictions Saturday: The opening day collections of both Ek Tha Tiger and Chennai Express are about the same. But with business of Rs 14.52 crore, ETT dropped by 55% on its second day at the box office. Chennai Express is unlikely to witness such a huge drop, as Saturday (today) is a holiday in most parts of the country. Also, the muslim section of the audience will come out in numbers to watch the film today. So we expect the second day collections to be around Rs 23-24 crore net, which is a drop of around 30%. The record for the highest second day collections is held by SRK’s Ra One (25 crore), it’ll be interesting to see if Shahrukh can break his own record! Sunday: Two national holidays in three days, plus a solo release – the makers of Chennai Express couldn’t have asked for more! Sunday is likely to be bigger, and business could well be close to 30 crore. Most major releases with mixed to good word-of-mouth tend to pick up by around 15-20% on Sunday. Prediction – 28 crore. The highest collections on a Sunday is held Salman’s Dabangg 2 (25 crore). First Weekend: That totals to weekend collections of around 91 crores, which is by the biggest weekend in Bollywood history. Currently, the highest collections in 3 days is Rs 65 crore (Dabangg 2). Even with bigger drops over the weekend, Chennai Express should still comfortable net more than 80 crores. The film could also be join the ’100 crore club’ in 4 days, the fastest for any film in history.
