After having finished the book, its easy for me to see why Hollywood was drawn to adapt Gillian Flynns Gone Girl into a movie. Hollywood specializes in crafting preposterous endings to stories that otherwise could have been compelling. Here, Flynn has drawn up the blueprint perfectly, with one of the most absurd last 45 pages of a book Ive ever read. The beginnings of the story contained some insightful commentary on the truths in relationships, and the mystery could have been rewarding. Except the mystery turned out to almost be an afterthought when its wrapped up (at least to the reader) with 200 pages left to go. An utter waste of time. I wonder if this is one of those rare instances where the movie might actually be better than the book. One can only hope.
