After ‘land to tiller’, Omar’s ‘power to people’ historic achievement: NC Jammu, Feb 1: The news about creation of new administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir was received with jubilation, drowned in the beating of drums and bursting of crackers at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this evening. Senior leaders and the party workers greeted each other while hailing the decision. The party headquarters wore a festive look with the enthusiastic workers dancing and distributing sweets among people. According to a statement issued to KNS, greeting the people, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana termed the decision taken by the State Cabinet under the stewardship of Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah as historic and a new milestone towards fulfillment of public demand. “The initative of Mr Omar Abdullah in taking the administration to the people will go in the annals of history with golden letters like the revolutionary measure of land to tiller by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah decades earlier”, he said while complimenting the Chief Minister for his single-mindedness and resilience in accomplishing the commitment made to the people. He said that creation of blocks, niabats ,tehsils and sub-divisions will go a long way in mitigating the difficulties of the people in various areas, particularly the far off pockets of the State, who had to traverse long distances for getting their problems resolved in various utility services offices. The Provincial President said the historic decision is in true spirit of National Conference’s cherished agenda of empowering the people, who he described as the real fountain of power. In this context, he also made a mention of holding the Panchayat elections after 33 years and said involvement of the people at grass roots level in decision making has given a new impetus to governance. Mr Rana exuded confidence that the public-friendly initiatives of the Chief Minister will greatly help in transforming the politico-economic scenario of the State, with people finding themselves at the helm, as far as their developmental aspirations are concerned. The Provincial President hailed the various other steps taken by the government during the past five years, saying these have left indelible mark on governance. By introducing Right to Information and Public Services Guarantee Acts, the Chief Minister has made the administration responsive and accountable to the people. Reports of celebrations over the creation of new administrative units are trickling from various parts of the state, with people expressing happiness over their long pending demand being met. The party leaders and functionaries at the district, tehsil and block levels have hailed the Chief Minister for this revolutionary initiative.
