Ahmed Adamu3:44pm Dec 8 Submission of Quotes for Youth Campaign Against Election Violence (Y-CAEV) Submit a Quote for our Campaign Against Election Violence As you may be aware, the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) has launched a campaign titled “Youth Campaign Against Election Violence (Y-CAEV)”, which is to be implemented in four different Commonwealth countries. The pilot campaign will be in Nigeria due to the imminent general elections in the country. The step-down of this campaign is scheduled to start first week of January 2015. Subsequently, CYC is producing stickers, peace video documentary, handbills, jingles, t-shirts etc in order to raise awareness about peace and harmony during and after electoral processes. These campaign materials will have inscription of different quotes from young people and some public leaders. You can submit your own one sentence quote for an opportunity to have your own quote printed in these materials and also featured in the video documentary. CYC will also be using stickers of your quotes on its social platforms and website. Top best quotes will be selected, and will be used repeatedly throughout the campaign. Any young person from the affected countries can submit his/her quote for this purpose. You can submit your own invented quotes and your photo by filling the form below on or before 15th December, 2015. According to Human Right Watch, election violence have cost many lives of young people in some Commonwealth nations. In Nigeria for example, the violence ensued after the 2003 general elections had left at least 100 young people dead and many others injured. European Union observers also reported that at least 300 young people were killed in violence linked to the 2007 elections. Human right watch also reported that the election violence has been on the rise in Nigeria with high level of casualties, loss of lives and properties in the last general elections in 2011 in the country, which almost resulted to a religious and ethnic crisis. The crisis cost lives of some innocent youth service corps members. The crisis had left more than 800 young people dead, and relief officials estimated that more than 65, 000 people were displaced. The Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) is concerned about the rising trend of election violence, and the increasing number of lives of young people cost by those violence, and is aware of the imminent 2015 Nigerian general elections.
