Al-Hamdulillah, our Umma has been blessed with many scholars - TopicsExpress

Al-Hamdulillah, our Umma has been blessed with many scholars (ulama) and preachers (du’at) who cater, predominantly, for the general public and benefit them with their motivational and uplifting speeches. They, Masha Allah, are fulfilling an important aspect of Da’wa in terms of guiding the vast majority of Muslims, and since their Da’wa is directed at the general majority, most of us know of them and benefit from them. Sadly, however, some of us only know of them and thus fail to appreciate and benefit from some of the greatest living gems in our Umma – Scholars who are academics, experts in Islamic sciences, authors of several books, teachers of different subjects and even Awliya of Allah, but not necessarily great public speakers. The other Ulama benefit from them the most; hence they are Scholar’s Scholars! I remember a few years ago, one such great gem visited our city, and only about 100 people turned up for his talk – mostly other Ulama. The next week, a famous public speaker visited, who in terms of knowledge and experience was not even close, and there was no space in the Mosque! Therefore, in addition to benefitting from public speakers, try identifying the real gems and benefit from them as well. Moreover, recognize who is an expert in which field, and consult them accordingly. A public speaker/preacher may not necessarily know the answers to your delicate Aqida, hadith and Fiqh related questions. The intelligent is one who recognizes a gem, and does not merely go with the flow! May Allah grant us the understanding, Ameen.
