The history of Muslims in Australia stands testimony of the concern that Muslims have towards the safety and security of Australia and all its citizens. The Muslim community has never threatened or harmed any person or institution in Australia. We affirm that this has been our history in the past and our vision for the future. We condemn any notion that suggests that the Muslims wish harm to the security of Australia. Due to statements of Government officials and hysteria fueled by the media, Muslims have been demonized and already there have been many incidents of abuse and threats. Any harm or abuse, be it verbal or physical, that may be perpetrated upon any Muslim man or woman or institution would be a responsibility borne on the shoulders of the Government. The unnecessary and lengthy interrogation of Muslims at airports, even Ministers of Religion, is a clear sign to the community of mistrust and persecution of the Government towards the Muslim community. We condemn the unnecessary tactics, such as pre-dawn raids on family homes and breaking-down doors as well as unreasonable use of force, heavy-handed tactics and harshness in dealing with the investigations of alleged acts of violence. We call upon the Security Agencies and the media to deal with any threats in an objective fashion without dramatization and over-zealous conduct. -END- [email protected]
