Alaskan kids back when Alaska was still the last frontier. When - TopicsExpress

Alaskan kids back when Alaska was still the last frontier. When I was little my mother would tell me stories about how her younger brother Mike and how they would go fishing. Just so you know, yes I am name after my moms younger brother Mike Bayless. When they were young the whole family lived in Nenana outside of Fairbanks. My mom and Mike would go fishing and the way they would cook the fish always intrigued me. They would start a fire and keep in burning and build up a lot of coals.Keep in mind these are 12 and 13 year old children. When they were done fishing they would gut the fish and leave on all the scales and heads. These would be Dolly Varden, Trout, and Grayling. They would pack the fish in mud after cleaning them and put them directly into the coals. The heat from the coals would bake the clay hard and then bake the fish inside. After a set time they would pull the fish out of the fire and break open the baked clay and all the fish skin and scales would come off with the clay and you would have fresh cooked fish meat exposed. My daughter is 12 and likes Taco Bell. These are pic of my Mom and Her Brother Mike
