Aleppo Analysis: For months, the world awaited the massive offensive by the Syrian Arab Army in Aleppo labeled Operation Northern Storm. However, it seemed to be more of a facade than reality. Unfortunately for the enemy, the Syrian Arab Army struck the district of Safira with tenacity and an uncompromising will to win. Minutes into the battle, the terrorists from ISIS had already sustained heavy losses and were on the brink of falling due to the surprise operation at 9 A.M. Damascus time. As soon as the Syrian Arab Army had captured the roundabout in the southern part of the district; it was all downhill from there. The capture of the key district of Safira shocked most observers and forced many to ask the question: Is the SAA really committing to an offensive in Aleppo? The answer is simple: yes. The whole purpose of the build up to this offensive was to surprise the enemy. For weeks the terrorists fortified their strongholds and bombarded SAA positions in the province. We all asked, why is the SAA sitting idle? They dont have enough men; this is what an FSA source claimed. Others doubted the armys leadership and dedication to the liberation of Syria. I dont blame anyone for thinking this - you were supposed to fall for this trap. Would the Achaeans been successful in Homers, Iliad, if they did not deceive their enemy? No, they wouldnt. General Freijj must have read Sun Tzus famous book, The Art of War because deception is one of the key themes of the book. After the battle of Safira, the SAA took the offensive. They refused to relinquish any of the captured land and set their sights on Tal Hassel and Tal Arn. The following day after the Battle of Safira, the SAA stormed Tal Arn and advanced to the ridge by nightfall; the capture of the ridge meant that the SAA controlled more than half of the city. While the Battle of Tal Arn was taking place, the SAA, along with the YPG and NDF, flanked the city of Tal Hassel and pushed deep into enemy territory. As these battles were taking place, the SAA attacked Battalion Base 80 and took it over by nightfall on Friday, November 8th. At 9:30 P.M. Damascus Time. Following this victory, the SAA attacked Naqqarin, a city neighboring the base. By nightfall, the SAA controlled 80 percent of the city. Today, the SAA has attacked it and they are on the verge of capturing this strategic city. My prediction: The ultimate goal of this offensive is to retake the vital city of Anadan; this has been the FSA stronghold and the key to securing the provincial capital. The SAA is well-armed; backed by the Syrian Air Force, National Defense Forces, Baathist paramilitary militias, and the YPG; and logistically superior to their enemy. By year end, the SAA should be in control of more than half of the province. I predict it will take at least a month to retake Anadan and another 6 months to close the Aleppo-Turkey border. There is still a lot of fighting left, but the terrorists have been paralyzed by infighting, disunity, and a lack of discipline. As long as the SAA can utilize its strength to its full capacity, then there should be no complications with retaking Anadan and securing the provincial capital once and for all. -Leith
