Alex had a follow-up visit at CHOP yesterday, and I am happy to - TopicsExpress

Alex had a follow-up visit at CHOP yesterday, and I am happy to report that it went very well. We have been concerned because Alex has used a wheelchair for distances and exhaustion in the past, but right now he is confined to his wheelchair due to his inability to walk from the impact of tumors compressing the nerves in his spine. When we left for his Make-a-Wish trip, he could barely move his legs or feet. However, Alex has regained some mobility in his left leg and even more strength and mobility in his right. Furthermore, he is still experiencing significant numbness in both legs, but he is feeling more sensation than he did right after his recent discharge. After his recent battle with septic shock, chemo had to be delayed by two weeks, which could have led to these setbacks. But right now it looks like the chemo is working! Alex’s neuro-oncologist, Dr. Belasco, was encouraged, and we are planning on starting a new cycle of chemo on Monday as long as Alexs blood counts remain as wonderful as they are at this time. We will rescan before the following cycle of chemo. As difficult as these obstacles have been, Alex’s resilience, optimism, and empathy for others who are fighting this battle continue to simply amaze us. I would like to thank all of you again for continuing to stand by Alex and our family. Every kind word, prayer, and gesture lifts our hearts and spirits. We will never be able to express our gratitude sufficiently, but please know that we feel truly blessed to be a part of your lives.
