All I asked for this Christmas for this boy to be safe! My - TopicsExpress

All I asked for this Christmas for this boy to be safe! My Christmas wish was answered early and I could not be any happier. Romeo is a one year old Husky/Mal mix who spent the first year of his life either tied to a tree in the backyard in rain, snow, and heat or in the basement because he kept getting loose from the rope. Constantly crying for help, but it did not come for a whole year. I learned about Romeo back in the beginning of November when he escaped the yard again and ended up at a local shelter. The owner reclaimed him at the last minute even though I had rescue set up for him. I offered to take him on the spot but the owner told me he was worth money and she would sell him. She was tired of being harrassed about him constantly by her neighbors. I gave the owner my phone number and asked her to call me if she changed her mind. I recieved a call two days later. The owner said she had locked him in the basement because when she put him in the yard the neighbors would call ac and the police. Romeo had broken out a window and escaped the basement. A neighbor found him running on the busy street and brought him back to her. She said to come and get him and bring $200 with me. I called the rescue and asked them to meet me at Romeos house and went to the bank to withdraw the money. I recieved another call from the owner when I was almost to her home. She now wanted $500 . He is not neutered..so worth more I told her to forget it and went home. She kept calling me off and on the following week and played her money games. She posted him for sale on Cl and did sell him but he was returned the following day. The owner called me again. We again made a deal and I was on my way when she called back and said she changed her mind. I finally decided not to answer her calls anymore because this was not working at all. I sat back and thought to myself, what other avenues can I explore to get this boy away from his owner who obviously did not care about his well being and only looked at Romeo as an easy money maker. I had played the owners games for a month. I am not one to ever give up on helping a neglected canine to safety and I would not give up on this young boy. And, the other avenues certainly did work. Saturday December 20th was finally Romeos day of forever freedom! He is now safe in a loving foster home in Maryland and I can whole heartedly say that he will never be tied to a tree or live a day in another dirty and dark basement. With the help of some friends who also worked tiredlessly with me, a dog is safe. When others cant or WONT step up to help any animal so obviously in need of human intervention..... please dont ever look the other way or turn off the picture in your head of that animal suffering.... contact someone that will go the extra mile to help that animal to safety. Look at this boy...how can you ever look the other way? It feel so good inside when you know that animal is exhaling that sigh of relief they all feel when they know they are finally safe and that someone did care. Merry Christmas to everyone! I already have mine!
