All the fun of the festival Thrilltown youth festival in Hilltown was a great success in the run-up to Halloween. As well as celebrating the re-opening of Clonduff Youth Club it aimed to entertain teenagers over the holidays and cut down on trouble in the village. And it worked! It was a quiet Halloween in Hilltown – everywhere except the youth club, where teenagers were packed in - breathing room only – to listen to local ghost stories and songs by storytelling and songwriting duo The Quiet Men. Three fun-packed days of pumpkin carving, conker battles, art, music, dancing and movies were topped off with a trip to Sheepbridge on Saturday for bowling, lazerquest and lunch. Deputy Mayor Brian Quinn cut the ribbon at the club’s official re-opening on Thursday, and paid tribute to previous staff, volunteers, committee and trustees who have supported the youth club in its 50-year history. The opening was widely supported by the community, with representatives from Hilltown Community Association, St Patrick’s PS, Clonduff Playgroup, the Cosy Club, Women of Clonduff, Clonduff GAC, the INF, Clonduff Development Enterprises, the SELB and local councillors coming along to wish the club and the children well. Thrilltown was supported by funding from the Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Hilltown Community Safety Partnership, the Co Down Rural Community Network, The Conservation Volunteers and the SELB. A special thanks to Hilltown Chippy for donating takeaway food for 30 ravenous teenagers on Friday night and to The Little Deli for the hot chocolates. Clonduff Youth Club is now open every Wednesday from 7-9pm for secondary school children or anyone under 18. Volunteers are invited to put their names forward to help out at a second night for younger children.
