All this talk about great basses. How about something a bit off the beaten path. The latest entry to my gallery of oddities, a Jolana Kolorbas, from the Czech Republic, while under Soviet control. Shipped from the Ukraine, it took about a month to arrive. It had serious problems, including a bad output jack, pickup selector and volume pot, just for starters. It just happened that I had an old Soviet Tesla pot on my workbench. Fitted with a new set of Fender flatwound strings, the sound is nothing short of amazing. Lets face it. The quality is crap, but when I spent the time to set it up properly, with low action and proper intonation it delivered sounds that I had not expected and it was good. You can justify keeping each bass for its unique voice and this, odd as it is, is a keeper.
