An Epworth man who was shot on both feet after hurling stones at a police officer has been remanded to August 8. Tapiwa Matambo was shot by a police reaction team as he was fleeing with 10,5 kg of copper cables worth $84. It is alleged on July 22, Matambo and his accomplice - who is still at large - went to the corner of Smutts and Northway Roads in Waterfalls where they located a Tel-One cabinet. The two allegedly force opened the box and cut-off the distribution cables inside. However, while at it, they activated the alarm at Tel-One head office. A dispatch team comprising a police officer and a Tel-One official rushed to the scene and spotted Matambo and his accomplice burning the stolen cables. The reaction team ordered the pair to surrender but instead they threw stones at the officers. Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira told the court that Sergeant Zvimba fired three warning shots in the air, with the duo fleeing from the scene. Zvimba then fired two more shots which hit Matambo on both legs, resulting in his arrest and the escape of his accomplice.
