An awesome opportunity for Alva tomorrow evening, October 14th, at the Runnymead! The class of Leadership Northwest Oklahoma has the privilege of having Chief Jon Hansen as a guest speaker. Chief Hansen will be speaking (very fittingly) on the subject of leadership. The decision was made to open this session to the public for any who would like to attend. Chief Hansen served 27 years on the Oklahoma City Fire Department where he rose through the ranks to Assistant Chief. Chief Hansen was on the Incident Management team during the 1995 Murrah Building Bombing. In addition to his command team responsibilities, he also served as the media point of contact for the Oklahoma City Fire Department. When the F5/F6 tornado with the highest windspeeds ever recorded devastated much of Central Oklahoma, Chief Hansen helped establish the Incident Management team to handle this which was once again, a major disaster. He also responded to assist at the World Trade Center and to Hurricanes Charlie, Ivan and Katrina. Because of his first-hand experience with large-scale natural and man-made incidents, Chief Hansen was President Bushs nominee for U.S. Fire Administrator, the highest position in the fire service, in 2000. Chief Hansen was a special consultant to the FEMA Director and testified before Congress, until family obligations caused him to return to Oklahoma. Chief Hansen is currently the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Training and is a lead instructor for the Center for Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City campus. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academys Executive Fire Officer program. Chief Hansen will dine with the Leadership class and their guest prior to his presentation. The doors will open to the public at 6:15 p.m. and the program will start at 6:30 p.m. Well see you there!
