An impacted tooth occurs when a permanent tooth does not fully - TopicsExpress

An impacted tooth occurs when a permanent tooth does not fully erupt through the gums. A tooth can be fully or partially impacted, depending on how far it has broken through the gums. The most common teeth to be impacted are the wisdom teeth. Often wisdom teeth become impacted because the mouth is too crowded or the tooth twisted during growth and can no longer emerge through the gums. Not everyone is aware that they have an impacted tooth because there is little to no pain. Treatment varies depending on your exact circumstances. In most cases, the tooth will be pulled, but if the surrounding teeth are not affected and there is no swollen tissue or a lot of pain, we may just monitor the situation to make sure things do not worsen.
