An instructive post for those Americans who think that they must - TopicsExpress

An instructive post for those Americans who think that they must keep large numbers of their fellows living at (near) starvation level, and that paying them more would ruin the economy. The opposite is the case: without a reasonable balance (which does not necessarily mean HIGH minimum wages) an economy cannot perform because not enough people can buy, while, also, taxpayers (usually not the richest) end up paying a huge social welfare bill anyway. Everything shows that economies which will fail are either those where everyone earns the same (in theory), as in communism, or where the difference between the enormously wealthy few and a great many really poor people is much too big, as in the United States. It is all a matter of sensible proportions as well as social justice. I am not a rampant leftie, but the lowest wage in the USA is FAR too low, and the State of Washington shows what can be done with what it still too low a wage, but one that is at least a LITTLE higher. If Americans dont learn to grasp the need to become just a bit more egalitarian, the country as a whole will suffer, including, eventually, the very rich.
