An interesting morning and early afternoon...Cleaning out the - TopicsExpress

An interesting morning and early afternoon...Cleaning out the attic and all the old papers and memory clutter; you can imagine how much “stuff” wed accumulated after living well over 36 years in this house. We were throwing away and preparing most old documents, etc. for shredding, but of course, you do have to stop and take a nostalgic look at a few things every once in a while. Things like... Sadies diary. Yeah, and it was interesting to say the least, going back some 56 plus years on some of the entries. Still wanting to take a closer look; and more later on that; but do expect heavily redacted and edited content if and when I post some carefully selected entries. No names, of course, so maybe I will just use numbers for all her many former boyfriends. Even so, we were reminiscing at lunch and Sadie mentioned taking her very first plane ride from a very long time ago. It wasnt with me, of course. Because I didnt take up flying until after wed been married a couple of years. So this maiden voyage was with, lets call him, “boyfriend #1”. Me: “So did y’all fly out of the old Seagoville Airport?” Sadie: “No. No, I think it was from some guys private airfield. It was a long time ago. I dont remember...” Me: “And what kind of plane was it?” Sadie: “A Dust Cropper.” (Said with much certainty.) Me: “What? A Dust Cropper?” Sadie: Nodding. “Im sure of it. Yes. It was an old Dust Cropper.” Me: “Huh. Maybe you mean a Crop Duster.” Sadie: “Oh. Well, I guess so. I dont know! It was just a really small plane...” Me: “You mean it was like an open cockpit bi-plane? Somehow I just cant imagine you going up in something like that.” Sadie: “Well. It had windows that rattled a whole lot. I do remember that.” Me (after a thoughtful pause): “Yeah, I think most Dust Croppers have windows that tend to rattle alright...” Just for the record, when I finally got around to taking Sadie up in a plane, it was in a modern low-wing Piper Cherokee. From a “real” airport, with long, wide concrete runways. And this airplane had windows too. But they didnt rattle. Not even a little bit. And it must have all made a good impression on her because, well, I mean, she ended up marrying me and not the guy in the Dust Cropper...
