An old friend of mine and his fiancee have suggested that their wedding guests donate to Doctors Without Borders in lieu of buying a present from their traditional wedding registry. I think it is a terrific idea. Doctors Without Borders is currently providing emergency medical care to refugees in and from South Sudan, typhoon victims in the Philippines, victims of intercommunal violence in the Central African Republic, among dozens of other countries, and treated people in my own city in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy. It is a great organization, and a terrific way to use ones registry to improve the lives of others.
