And I am such a little nut! I have been talking the last few days about how whenever I question the powers that be (ie: chiefs of stuff and city admins etc...) they always look at me like Im crazy and then give me some sort of pat on the head response as though Im just supposed to trust them. People in power screwed up last year. period. and now Im supposed to believe they have it all figured out? I keep going back and forth with myself. I mean I AM just a former small business owner who works at a winery now. Presumably these powers that be guys have lots of schooling, classes and the ability to gather all kinds of information from amazing sources in order to plan things for the best possible outcome right? And then I remind myself that despite asking for it last year we didnt get a flood drill or any sort of training. In fact when asked where I should send people the police chief said to direct them up Washington St. which would mean sending them INTO THE WATER. So, I will keep being a little nut and holding my ground even when I am dismissed. Preparing for disaster and protecting the community I love is too important. I will try my best not to hammer on the mistakes made last year while addressing them in a manner that will hopefully illicit thoughtful responses and consideration. This is not an easy task since I really want to scream at our leaders for failing us so terribly. The last thing anyone wants to hear after a disaster is it could have been worse and having lost someone who was an important part of a large segment of my life in the flood I can say that it sucks to even think those words but really, it could have been worse.
