And so it begins. Our 17th year of trying to get a good meal to hungry families on Thanksgiving. I know everyone reading this is thankful for what they have. The year, Ive decided to give 100% of the food to Foodbank of Southern California. The actual Food Drive is happening all day today, Saturday & Sunday at Smart & Final in Venice located at 604 Lincoln Blvd. If you cant be there physically, please consider being a part of our Virtual Food Drive. Youll see the link below goes directly to Foodbank of So. Cal. I absolutely detest misappropriation of funds. Who really knows where our hard-earned money goes when we donate after a hurricane? I give, but Im always wondering, did FEMA actually get it to the place where its really needed? Lets not comment about FEMA. Lets stay focused on raising food. This will sound harsh but just clicking the Facebook LIKE tab does not feed a hungry person, but you can. Last year, we raised 56,500 pounds of food. Out of 400 Thanksgiving food drives in Southern California, thanks to all of you, were now the biggest. To those of you who find yourself unable to donate at this time, I get it. Times are tough, a stack of bills to pay & jobs are scarce. This my friends is a GUILT FREE ZONE. All I ask is, give back when you can. Hunger doesnt just happen on Thanksgiving. Its a continuous monster that never ever stops 24/7, 365. Ask yourself, when was the last time you went to bed hungry? I hope you cant remember. Then imagine, not having any food in your cupboard to make dinner for your family. Its a tragedy in the amazing country. Theres a way to feed people. Theres a method to my madness. Heres how I do it. This Thanksgiving, $10 can really make an impact. I can buy a giant 50-pound sack of FRESH onions for just $8.99. (These suckers are so heavy, I love it.) With that same 10 bucks, I can also buy a 5-pound sack of FRESH potatoes for just 89 cents. To sharpen the point, with the 12 cents change leftover, well get that up to another 89 cents & buy another 5-pound bag of FRESH potatoes. With every single penny, I will buy food in bulk. Let ME feed families in YOUR honor. Thats direct relief. Thats impact. Thats Thanksgiving. Thanks & God Bless us all, Leo
