Andersonville Prison (Georgia) - the most notorious Civil War - TopicsExpress

Andersonville Prison (Georgia) - the most notorious Civil War prison. In just 14 months, it had 45,000 Union prisoners, of which 13,000 died. Grant refused a prisoner exchange and, with Union blockades, there was no way to get them food or shelter. As a national cemetery, a veteran and spouse can be buried there today. Its also the national POW museum -- all prisoners of all war. Second photo is of the Tiger Cage that held American POWs in Vietnam, sometimes for years. You can do genealogical research on your ancestors from the Civil War at Andersonville. The camp kept excellent records and Clara Barton herself came and marked the trench graves after the war. Only complaint about the museum: they want the visitor to have a Prisoner of War experience and many of the exhibits are so dimly lit, you cant see it or read it.
