Another rant about food stamps and obesity... This is absolutely ridiculous! Meanwhile I pick up low sodium peanut butter and the insane wic stipulations require me to put it back. Let me paint a picture for you: I have just spent an hour in the grocery store with my seven month old carefully selecting healthy foods for my family. I have in my hand two wic checks ( one for $10 of fresh fruits and vegetable and one for milk, eggs, peanut butter, and bread). When I get to the register, I will have to make three separate transactions. One for the first check, one for the second check, and one for any items I purchase not supplied by wic. I have to sign each check in front of them, then hand it to them to run through a machine. And if I calculated wrong and picked up $10.50 in fruits and vegetable by mistake? I have to pay that .50 out of my pocket- ANOTHER SEPARATE TRANSACTION. I have to be sure I picked up 1% milk or less, whole wheat bread, and eggs smaller than extra large. Meanwhile, food stamp recipients can load whatever food items into their carts and swipe a fancy card that looks just like a debit card. No one is in line behind then angry that they need to put back a block of cheese for another. No one is upset about the time it takes to sign a check and process it. Seriously America. Get it together.
