Another study abroad success story! Hi Christelyn, I havent contacted you in some time. I dont know if you remember me. But I guess because your blog has become somewhat of second nature to me as Im sure it has to most of your fans, I felt the need to share my experience with you. I had just graduated college and after a year of working a low end job in my field , decided to go to graduate school. When searching for good Media programs online, a University in Dublin, Ireland struck my interest. I applied and I was accepted. On September 1st, I moved here. Three days after being here I already had been invited on two dates. Its so different here...dating. Irish men and European men in general have stronger ties to family. They seem to understand things about partnership and compatibility that most American men have yet to figure out. It feels promising to live somewhere, knowing that whoever I date is thinking about the future just as much as I am. Back at home, thats considered a female thing. As a black woman at home, I often felt like a number. More times than I care to admit, I felt like a number that was picked last. Here, women who look like us are exotic beauties. Men stop in the streets to stare , nod and sometimes speak. For once, I feel like the woman Ive always seen in the mirror. The woman that few black people in America seemed to see. To put it simply, it feels amazing. I wanted to share with you so that other women seeking love will know that people arent just hyping them up about living abroad. The possibilities are real. Im not admitting to having a whole marriage proposal yet. But I truly feel like here, its a more likely possibility. I hope that other young women will consider it, before they spend years in the American dating scene looking for that perfect black man like the father they never had. Chances are, hes not out there. The guy Im dating is the perfect red headed , green eyed gentleman. He didnt find it emasculating to admit to me that he wants 4 children on our second date. Thats what I call a man. Thanks for reading, Nichole
