Another way to calculate Learning Curve Let us assume that it requires 12 hours to produce the 1st unit, and there is an 80% learning curve. To determine the production time for the 2nd unit we simply multiply 12 by .8. In order to determine the time required to produce the 4th unit we have 12 × .8 × .8. The time for the 8th unit will be calculated as 12 × .8 × .8 × .8, and so on for the 16th, 32nd and incremental units. Note that these times that we have calculated are for only the 2nd, 4th, 8th, 16th ... units as this method calculates the time to produce the last unit each time that production doubles.
