Any Irish on here? I figured Id post to draw attention to two big groups in Ireland. BitcoinIreland has organized and sponsored a number of events over the last while. Recently they sponsored the BitFin event, which attracted (in addition to the crypto businesses) people from the Irish Central Bank, Isle of Man government, and lots of other financial institutions.. Also Stripe, Hailo, and many others who are considering using bitcoin. The Meetup group has attracted over 300 members, and has frequent drinks nights in the Baggot Inn - so you can even pay for drinks with bitcoin. Krust on Aungier St is a bakery that accepts bitcoin! Theres also a vibrant developer community, BitcoinIreland sponsored a hackathon a few weeks back and are working on having more of these events soon. The plan for these is to get some great minds in the same room and whip something up over the weekend, (+ pizza and beer). There are a few startups also! Haskoin are developing a wallet/node supporting BIP32/multisig and hardware security modules. Eircoin is still running and is Irelands first and longest running bitcoin broker. QuantaBytes are a blockchain forensics and analysis company (their team wrote the first paper on how Bitcoin isnt as anonymous as everyone thought). Signatur are developing hardware vaults to physically store bitcoins. Theres a guy developing NFC point-of-sale terminals for in-store bitcoin payments. And of course I cant go a day without mentioning Bitwasp - an ecommerce platform. Wayra, O2/Telefonicas startup incubator, hosted an event in March which attracted a number of startups to showcase their projects to the community. So, this post is naturally a shout-out to all of the above - everyone is working towards an open & supportive environment. Its also a call to action for anyone whos into bitcoin - come join the fun! If youre a business, a lot of people at the meetups would surely help you get set up to accept them (for free), so feel free to turn up with questions!
