Anyone who has read the 15 principles of the New Zealand First - TopicsExpress

Anyone who has read the 15 principles of the New Zealand First Party on their website would not really be surprised by Winstons announcement that his party wants to buys back Mighty River Power . It is perfectly consistent with Principle 12 which states : Strategic state asset sales will cease. If considered appropriate and only where absolutely necessary, management by private contracts under public ownership will replace the policy of state asset sales. And, as it happens, in this articular instance I applaud it. What is NOT consistent with his partys principles is his continued silence on the health and social policy issues I have raised with him and Deputy Leader Tracey Martin which would alleviate the effects of Child Poverty. NZ Firsts Principle No 6 states : Health will cease to be a balance sheet item. Health will be a critical investment in New Zealand’s human resource. So where does NZ First stand on : The progressive introduction of free medical care 24/7 for everyone under 18? Where do they stand on Warrants of Fitness for Rental Properties? Where do the stand on the progressive introduction of free healthy meals into schools? What about their Principle 9? The Welfare State must be an umbrella to meet genuine and deserving need. Government has a duty to properly determine those needs and respond to them…. A baby needs it mother - certainly it needs someone to give it constant and devoted care in the first year of its life. Is that not a deserving need we should support as part of the welfare state ? Where do NZ First stand on the issue of progressively increasing paid parental leave to eventually cover the first year of a New Zealand Citizens life? Silence is not, in this instance, golden. New Zealand First need to state a definite position on these and the other issues affecting child well-being I have raised with them over the past months . Yes? Or No? Maybe isnt good enough if they want to be seriously considered by anyone wanting to vote for a child friendly parliament.
