Appalachian Power Storm Response Summary Thursday, June 12, 2014 – 6:45 p.m. Appalachian Power has made considerable progress toward restoring service to all customers who lost power following strong winds and thunderstorms that moved through the area Tuesday and Wednesday. Crews have been working to address significant damage to the system, including broken poles and downed wires caused by the initial storm. The second storm hampered restoration efforts and resulted in additional outages. Weather Meteorologists are forecasting additional scattered showers and potential thunderstorms in Appalachian Power’s service area Thursday and Friday. The storms are not expected to cause significant outages but could delay restoration. Drier, cooler weather is expected by the weekend. Outages As of 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Appalachian Power has restored power to about 80 percent of the 67,000 customers who lost power across West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee following Tuesday’s storm. About 14,000 customers remain without power, mostly in Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Logan and Wayne counties of West Virginia. Many customers should see their service restored Thursday night, while customers in the hardest hit areas and more isolated areas may not have power until Friday night. Some of the additional crews that arrived in West Virginia on Thursday are assisting in Logan and Mingo counties and surrounding areas. Next Update June 13, 2014 – 10 a.m.
