Appearance It was narrated from ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah () said: ‘Season (your food) with olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree.” (Sunan Ibn Majah) Hazrat Anas (Radiallahu anhu) reports, Sayyidina Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) often rubbed oil in his head and also often combed his beard. He put a cloth over his head, which became like an oil cloth due to the frequent use of oil. (Tirmidhi) Narrated Abu Juhaifa: The Prophet made a bond of brotherhood between Salman and Abu Ad-Darda. Salman paid a visit to Abu Ad-Darda and found Um Ad-Darda dressed in shabby clothes and asked her why she was in that state. She replied, Your brother Abu Ad-Darda is not interested in (the luxuries of) this world. In the meantime Abu Ad-Darda came and prepared a meal for Salman. Salman requested Abu Ad-Darda to eat (with him), but Abu Ad-Darda said, I am fasting. Salman said, I am not going to eat unless you eat. So, Abu Ad-Darda ate(with Salman). When it was night and (a part of the night passed), Abu Ad-Darda got up (to offer the night prayer), but Salman told him to sleep and Abu Ad-Darda slept. After sometime Abu Ad-Darda again got up but Salman told him to sleep. When it was the last hours of the night, Salman told him to get up then, and both of them offered the prayer. Salman told Abu Ad-Darda, Your Lord has a right on you, your soul has a right on you, and your family has a right on you; so you should give the rights of all those who has a right on you. Abu Ad-Darda came to the Prophet and narrated the whole story. The Prophet said, Salman has spoken the truth. (Bukhari) Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (pbuh) said, He who has, in his heart, an ants weight of arrogance will not enter Jannah. Someone said: A man likes to wear beautiful clothes and shoes? Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, Allah is Beautiful, He loves beauty. Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the Truth and despising people. (Muslim) Salim bin ‘Abdullah narrated that his father said that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: You should use antimony, for it improves the eyesight and makes the hair (eyelashes) grow. (Ibn Majah) Narrated Zahdam bin Mudarrab: `Imran bin Hussain said, The Prophet (pbuh) said, The best of you (people) are my generation, and the second best will be those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the second generation. `Imran added, I do not remember whether he mentioned two or three (generations) after his generation. He added, Then will come some people who will make vows but will not fulfill them; and they will be dishonest and will not be trustworthy, and they will give their witness without being asked to give their witness, and fatness will appear among them. (Bukhari) Abdullah ibn Buraydah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) has forbidden us to indulge much in luxury. (Abu Dawud) Narrated Abdullah ibn Mughaffal: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) forbade combing the hair except every second day. (Abu Dawud) It was narrated that Humaid bin Abdur-Rahman Al-Himyari said: I met a man who accompanied the Prophet [SAW] as Abu Hurairah accompanied him for four years, who said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade us from combing our hair everyday. (Sunan an-Nasai)
