Aquilla Flood, a high school student who was just days away from her 18th birthday was shot dead in the bedroom of her home in East Orange, N.J. Flood had reportedly been receiving threats from an ex-boyfriend; a man in his late 30s was shot and killed in Des Moines, Iowa. Adam R. Riley, 18, was shot multiple times and killed by a fellow teen on the west side of Danville, Ill.; a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg by someone in a passing vehicle while walking in Gary, Ind.; Keilan Thurston, 20, who had been a standout high school football player, was shot and died while en route to the hospital; a 21-year-old student died and another man and a teenager were wounded after a gunman fired off about a dozen rounds at a group of people gathered on the front porch of a row home in Philadelphia, Pa. According to Slate’s gun-death tracker, an estimated 4,804 people have died as a result of gun violence in America since the Newtown massacre on December 14, 2012.
