Are we creating a stunted generation of children? This may - TopicsExpress

Are we creating a stunted generation of children? This may sound harsh. But this conclusion is inescapable when we see two-year-old kids playing iPad games all day long. From Mattel to Toys R Us, all the heavyweight game makers are increasingly focusing on iPad games. You cant blame them. They are only going where their audience is. Growing up with mostly virtual interactions, its inevitable that kids will turn out to be socially awkward, with a distorted understanding of human interactions. Will they even have fully developed voices, or hoarse immature-sounding voices due to never having shouted in playgrounds? Will they have a body language befitting a fully healthy human being? Will they communicate only through gadgets, and make a fool of themselves if they have to face a real person? Will romance be entirely virtual too? How about the memories? Will there be a place for nostalgia? How will they remember their parents? As a couple of bespectacled nerds peering over their own gadgets all the time? Is that the image they themselves will project to their own children, assuming they know how to make babies in the first place? This is the world we are creating. What can we do before its too late?
