Are you able to drink the cup? Nelson Mandela is dead. What - TopicsExpress

Are you able to drink the cup? Nelson Mandela is dead. What is the secret he took to the grave that was open for every eye to see? What is it that we have eyes for but do not see? Ears for but do not hear? It is as plain as the light of day. But why is no one picking up that mantle? He died long before he was dead. What does it take to be a dead man walking? Its so much harder die though you live. Are we willing to drink the cup? He laid aside his glory, Willingly cloaked and masked the glory of heaven by taking on an earth suit. Weak decaying flesh from birth. What did he know about the power of laying it down to accomplish the goal? The goal was as plain as the light of day. Hidden from the eyes of all humans who heard his voice and saw his form. For the joy set before him he appeared to forsake his inheritance as King. He was the offspring of David after all. Messiah come to earth. Surely now is the time for the kingdom to be established son of David? Weve waited so long! Upside down kingdom. Stripped naked, abandoned by all, forsaken by friends and family. Wrongly accused by those with power. Holy innocence becoming intimate with sin. God-forsaken. Every pain known to woman and man nailed to the wood. Throne of David—dying with you. Justice for Israel under Roman oppression—dying with you. Healing for the sick—dying with you. Words of life for the masses—dying with you. Freedom for the captives—dying with you. Kingdom come—dying with you. How could you believe anyone would take up that mantle? How could you believe anyone would follow you in handing over their flesh and blood to pain and death? How could you think that anyone would willingly pick up the cup of bitterness and wrath to drink it? How could you imagine that anyone would pick up the wood and follow you to the place of the skull? You did it anyway. Betting the farm. Selling the field. Giving up your inheritance on earth as it was in heaven. Entombing all the hopes of those who heard your voice, felt your touch, saw your form, believed you would lead them. Who would have faith to take up the mantle after that colossal display of defeat? Who would want to follow you, to lift that cup, to drink death to self? Who wants to join the losing side? Its as plain as the light of day. But for the wind of the spirit, we could not breathe into premature death. But for the unction of the spirit, we could not choose the path of nonviolence. But for the spirit baptism, we could not speak the unintelligible tongues of death to self. But for the greater one, we could not willingly lay down our inheritance now. The way up, is the way down. To be deeply reconciled, we must embrace our Judas. Well be rejected by those who fight for economic freedom as sell-outs. Make peace with the fact that the wood you pick up daily, will one day be the death of you. His call is to drink the cup. We will be the seed that falls to the ground to die for the lives of many. We will embody radical justice. We will live a revolution of love. Its as plain as the light of day. We are Changemakers. by Selena Headley at the conclusion of Changemakers Oct 10, 2014
