Assistant Director, Gallery 400 (Curator of Art I) Gallery 400 at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking an Assistant Director (Curator of Art I) to assist in providing high-level support of gallery operations, financial planning, fundraising and communications. The Assistant Director works with the Gallery Director to implement the gallerys mission to support and make contemporary art accessible. The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of contemporary art, is outgoing, organized and creative, has strong writing and editing skills, and effectively utilizes social media for marketing and communications. Minimum requirements: 1. Three years (36 months) of experience in the following areas of preparation: (a) Experience and/or training that provided a knowledge of art history and the history and the techniques used in the preservation, restoration, and/or exhibition of museum collections comparable to that normally provided in Bachelor Degree program. (b) College coursework in art history or studio art with significant course work in art history or closely related field of study that included credit for techniques used in the preservation, restoration, and/or exhibition of museum collections: • Associate Degree or 60 semester hours equals one year • 90 semester hours equals two years • Bachelors degree or 120 semester hours equals three years Preferred qualifications: - Master degree in Art Administration, Art History, Museum Studies or area related to the position. - In-depth knowledge of current practices in art gallery operations, and understanding of contemporary art practice. - Proven experience in successful fundraising efforts. - Excellent writing, editing, and public speaking skills. Experience writing about contemporary art.
