As I watch my fifteen-year-old brother safely and solitarily play basketball in the street, I am eerily reminded that for many families, this is a privilege they do not have. As a white, cisgender, straight, physically-built male in a middle-class area, I can almost guarantee he will be safe and sound when I return. What have we done to deserve this protection? And what have some families done to lose their sons to games of basketball in their streets?
